Geometry Fun!
This week, the kids were introduced to geometry and boy did they love it! We learned a few new vocabulary words - polygon, quadrangle, quadrilateral, line segments, parallel lines. Yesterday, we brought out the geoboards and explored with rubber bands, making shapes that had a certain amount of points and line segments. They are really enjoying this unit as I am teaching it!

Peer Editing
I introduced to the students this week, peer editing! They did a wonderful job critiquing each other's work and giving compliments for what they did well! Here was the process!
Step 1: Read each other's work.
Step 2: Give a compliment!
Step 3: Offer suggestions to improve your partner's work!
Focus on punctuation, capitals, and making sense!
Enjoy the pictures of the students helping each other learn!

Special Visitors!
We had two special presentations this past week. Our friends, Jim Flanagan and Frank McGarvey, came and did a story telling lesson! They used minimal props and only their imaginations to tell stories to the students! The kids loved their humor and imaginations!
Also, the Marysville Library came to our second grade class! We were read new and exciting books and introduced to programs and events that the library is holding in the near future! Check out their website for more information!
Learning to Measure!
The kids had a great time learning to measure with a measuring tape! They learned what it meant by centimeter and inch as well as learn their abbreviations. The kids also discovered the difference between inches and centimeters by measuring objects around the room using both units. They thought it was pretty cool to see how tall they were in inches!

Welcome Back!
Happy New Year Families!!
The teachers of Marysville schools spent the day learning lots of fun new guided reading strategies for the kids and getting ready for their arrival tomorrow morning!! I am so excited to see the kids and hope they are all ready to come back, rested and renewed!
Please remind the kids to dress warm - we will go outside unless it's really cold/wet outside.
This week, we will be reviewing school rules and expectations as well as practicing our routines to make sure we can get the most learning done. Sometimes it can take awhile to get back into the "swing of things". I'm confident it won't take long.
Homework will be as usual. Spelling words will be sent home this week and there will be the test on Friday. We will have our math fact test on Friday and reading will be expected every night. I know it's hard to get back into it (trust me...I've done nothing, but sit on Pinterest looking at school activities and play with my dogs all break), but I find it's best to start in as we did before break. Thanks for helping the kids get back into their school routines!
I hope you've had a wonderful break with your family and enjoyed the snow (maybe?)
Have a great night!
