Today in math, the kids learned how to play equivalent fraction top it! With a partner and a deck of fraction cards, each person turned over 2 fraction cards. If they were equal, they could keep the match. If they were not, they had to set them aside and the next person would go and do the same thing. Equivalent fractions is a hard concept to grasp so work at home with your child. When ordering a pizza, consider the pizza a whole. Then cut it into one half. From there, ask your child, "How many parts are in this whole?" Then cut it into more pieces asking the same question. Stop cutting when you have 8 equal pieces. As you eat the pizza, ask your child to come up with a fraction for the amount that is eaten. Ideally, once 4 pieces are gone, they could look at the pizza and say, 1/2 is equivalent to 4/8!

Thank you, Mrs. Bix!
Thank you so much, Mrs. Bix, for coming in and speaking to us about how to write an appealing newspaper article! The kids loved hearing how to write a catch phrase for a headline and also learning to include facts in our articles, instead of opinions.
Our class is writing the Fairy Tale News for the Fairy Tale Ball! This will be handed out to the entire 2nd grade during the Fairy Tale Ball on May 3! They are very excited that I chose to do this with them and show their creativity!
State Research Projects
The kids each picked a different state from one another! We reserved books from the library for all 50 states and used them to pull information for our state research projects! We decided, as a class, not to get upset if someone picks a state we wanted first, but to realize that ALL the states have something really cool about them that needs to be learned!
The Dentist Came to Visit!
We learned all about what drinking sugary drinks can do to our teeth, how to brush our teeth properly and also what we need to do to keep our permanent, adult teeth healthy!
